babies, babies, babies

There have been a lot of babies in my life recently. Babies being born, babies growing up, and babies waiting to be born. It seems like everyone around me is having a baby, except me of course. Don't think that this is some kind of announcement.

With all of these babies, I can't help but having babies on the mind. (How many times do you think I can say babies in this blog post?) Mostly, cute baby clothes to give as presents to my sister who is having a little guy pretty soon. She is kind of particular about baby clothes, so I have been trying to find something just perfect.

I ran across this on a website tonight, and I think I hit the jackpot!

Pajama onesie for baby and free labor for mom. Love it!
Too bad her baby won't be Asian, though.

A Soapbox of Happiness

The title of this blog, A Universe in Every Heart, is attributed to Dr. Jini Roby, associate professor at Brigham Young University. In the class called Global Issues of Children at Risk, Dr. Roby helped a class of 25 to realize the potential of every person in the world. She left us with some parting words that I will carry with me forever: "There is a universe inside every person". In this context, I decided to make this saying my own.

I believe that these are words to live by. The world would indeed be a better place if this small phrase were better understood. Every person--every man, woman and child, no matter where there are, where they have been, what they have done, what their race, color, or creed; in every person there is a universe. Everyone has a story, a mother, a father, a life history, a personality, likes, dislikes, pet peeves, and quirks of their own. With that, everyone has a future--a potential that is great. Thus, every person deserves love, care, and understanding.

So, there is my soapbox. I think Dr. Roby has helped us rephrase the secret that will lead us to happiness on this earth: selfless service. Service in the form of empathizing with those around us, small tokens of kindness, and forgetting ourselves to go to work in the service of others. Service in remembering that in each heart, not just our own, there is a universe. I'm not at all saying that I am perfect in this area, but I know that the days when I hold this sentiment near, I am completely happy.
